FROM THIS MONTH'S ISSUE:HP Adds Hardware, Supplies, and Services for Enterprise Clients
Coming hot on the heels of its release last month of a slew of new ink jet and laser devices for smaller office environments, on April 8 Hewlett-Packard introduced some 20 new laser machines for enterprise applications. Like the SMB products launched in March, most of the enterprise hardware debuted this month employs newly designed consumables. HP introduced enhanced ColorSphere toner sets designed especially for its latest tabloid/A3-sized color laser enterprise devices. The firm also developed a low-melt monochrome toner that supports print speeds of more than 60 pages per minute (ppm) in some of the new LaserJet models.
Mike Feldman, vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for HP Imaging and Printing Group (IPG) Global Enterprise Business (GEB), says the new hardware will be brought to market using tactics HP embraced several years ago to better penetrate the enterprise space. In short, HP's goal is to optimize its enterprise clients' printer fleets, manage their print environments, and improve their workflow processes by providing imaging hardware along with other services and products such as computers and servers. In 2006, the firm restructured its direct sales organization and deployed teams made up of consultants with expertise in business processes, services, and technology who work with account sales managers to provide both hardware and software solutions to HP enterprise clients (Journal, 10/06). Feldman says the effort continues and the firm is adding to its direct sales force by recruiting and training market specialists with expertise in various industries. The firm is also expanding the capabilities of its managed print services as well as refreshing its hardware portfolio.
The list of new enterprise hardware includes both color and monochrome devices. The firm replaced its aging tabloid/A3-sized Color LaserJet 9500 (Journal, 9/03) and Color LaserJet 9500mfp machines (Journal, 11/04) with three product lines: the Color LaserJet CP6015, CM6030, and CM6040. These tabloid/A3-sized units employ new ColorSphere toner cartridges and separate imaging drums. The veteran LaserJet 4250 and 4350 series (Journal, 10/04) workgroup monochrome printers have also been retired and replaced with the HP LaserJet P4014, P4015, and P4515 workgroup units, which are some of the firm's fastest monochrome laser printers to date. These machines use a conventional ground polyester-based monochrome toner with a low fusing temperature. HP also upgraded the LaserJet 9040mfp and 9050mfp (Journal, 11/04) with the LaserJet M9040 MFP and M9050 MFP, which are based on the engine found in the older machines and use existing consumables.
The Color LaserJet CP6015 is one of the new machines Hewlett-Packard has launched to replace its
aging tabloid/A3-sized line up. HP's latest color machines all use a new ColorSphere toner set.
